Dr. Lu obtained B.S. in Pharmacy from Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, Changsha, China in 2010, and was conferred the Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics (Drug Delivery/Nanomedicine) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 2014. During 2015, Dr. Lu was a NIH Postdoctoral Scholar at Department of Chemistry, The University of Chicago. From 2016 to 2019, Dr. Lu was a NIH Postdoctoral Scholar/NIH NRSA T32 Postdoctoral Fellow in Nanomedicine/Tumor Immunology at California NanoSystems Institute, University of California, Los Angeles. Since April 2019, he has been an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Pharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics at R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy (RKCCOP), The University of Arizona. He currently serves as the Director for the Pharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics Track at The University of Arizona RKCCOP. He is an elected Secretary of Knowledge Management in Pharmaceutics Section of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and is an Associate Editor for "Frontiers in Medical Technology: Nano-Based Drug Delivery" journal.
Dr. Lu has been awarded grants from NIH/NIGMS (MIRA R35), the PhRMA Foundation (Research Starter Grant in Drug Delivery), State of Arizona's Technology and Research Initiative Fund (TRIF), BIO5 Institute, and NIH/NIEHS-sponsored SWEHSC. Dr. Lu was the recipient of the Norman R. and Priscilla A. Farnsworth Award, NIH/NCI Ruth L. Kirschstein Institutional National Research Service Award in Tumor Immunology, and the 2022 AACP Pharmaceutics Research Award. His research work has been published in Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Communications, Journal of Hepatology, Biomaterials, ACS Nano, Small, Journal of Controlled Release, etc. Dr. Lu teaches Drug Delivery Systems, Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics and other courses for undergraduate, graduate, as well as professional PharmD students. The overarching goal of Lu lab is to develop innovative, safe, and efficacious nanotherapeutics at the interface of drug delivery, synthetic chemistry, pharmaceutics, nanoparticle engineering, and tumor immunology to address the pressing unmet needs in cancer and other diseases therapy and prevention.
